Mobile bill payment: a new feature for PlayStation users

2 min

Bouygues Telecom simplifies digital purchases for PlayStation gamers. Thanks to mobile bill payment, topping up your virtual wallet becomes fast, secure, and requires no bank details sharing.

Since August 29, 2014, Bouygues Telecom and B&YOU consumer customers with a PlayStation 3 or 4 console can now top up their virtual wallet on the Sony Entertainment Network platform using mobile bill payment. Whether via the console interface, the website, or Sony’s mobile application, it is no longer necessary to provide bank card information to purchase video games, additional content, applications, music, or VOD.

To credit their Sony wallet, the user selects the desired amount, chooses mobile payment, and enters a 4-digit code received via SMS. A confirmation SMS sent by Bouygues Telecom and an email from Sony then validate the transaction. The amount is automatically added to the mobile bill under the heading “Games – Applications: Sony.”

Bouygues Telecom then remits the collected amounts to Sony while receiving a commission for this service. Already available on Google Play, for parking payment in certain cities, or for SMS donations, mobile bill payment represents a market estimated at over 100 million euros in 2014. Microsoft also plans to launch this feature soon.

A secure and controlled service

In addition to not requiring the communication of bank details online, Bouygues Telecom has implemented measures to prevent excessive consumption. Purchases are capped at €30 per transaction and €100 over a 30-day period.

Since April 2014, customers also have the option to customize their spending limits for paid mobile services directly from their online customer area (section “Consumption tracking & bills” > “Paid mobile services” > “Control my spending”).
